The baluster style mug was a favorite shape in the Middle Ages and Renaissance, with the high full shoulder lending the design strength, balance, and grace. Early baluster mugs were made in the 12th century, and they continued to be made through out the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and beyond. Examples have been found in Belgium, France, England, the Rhineland, and the Netherlands. Our baluster mugs are individually hand made by a potter in Idaho, and shipped directly to you. They are made in a variety of period appropriate colors and surface designs.
Our baluster mugs differ from medieval examples in that ours are food safe and contain lead-free glazes. These mugs hold roughly 12 ounces. Mugs vary in exact design, clay body, and glaze. If you have a specific color and clay body preference we will try to accommodate it if we have it in stock. Please indicate any color preference in the comments section of the order form. Colors that may be available include: dark brown glaze on a red clay body, light brown glaze on a red clay body, tan glaze on a red clay body, and light green on a white clay body. Occasionally we also have a brown or tan glaze on the white clay body.
Shipping is included in the price of this item. Please note: This product is shipped directly from our clay artist in Idaho, so shipping on additional non-ceramic items is separate. This product should ship in within two working days of when the order is processed.
